Akunna’s journey into healthcare operations began on the ground—not in a boardroom.
For approximately three years, she worked in HMO marketing across Nigeria’s Southeast, enrolling clients, liaising directly with healthcare providers, and helping ensure that insured patients could access the healthcare services they had enrolled to receive—not simply hold a card that promised access.
She also managed operations at an eye hospital, where she led the process of bringing HMOs into the facility for inspection and accreditation. Under her leadership, the hospital successfully onboarded three separate HMOs as approved healthcare partners.
Alongside her healthcare management experience, Akunna spent time on radio promoting preventive eye health awareness within the community, encouraging people to undergo routine checks that could help detect conditions such as glaucoma and cataract before they became emergencies.
This combination of experience—facilitating healthcare access, managing the day-to-day operations of a healthcare facility, and developing the compliance relationships required to maintain access to HMO business—forms the foundation of SeamFlow Consulting.
